My Android device has more camera options by default than the camera in the app

By also allowing the device camera in the app settings, this camera can also be used in addition to the default built-in camera in the app.

The camera included on your Android device can sometimes do more (or have more different camera options) than the built-in camera in the Incontrol Inspect App. Not every device brand gives access for apps like ours, to be allowed to use all available features of the camera. In practice, it can therefore happen that you as a user want to use the wide angle camera, for example, but it is not accessable in the app. To solve this problem, it is possible to use the device camera in addition to the built-in camera in the app.

Configure the Android app and use an alternative camera

If you also want to be able to use the device camera, the Incontrol Android app must be configured once to allow this.

  1. Open the Android app
  2. Go to the 3 dots (...) in the upper right corner and select 'Settings'.
  3. Under the heading 'Camera' check "allow device camera"

In the settings (Preferences) in Incontrol's Android app, you can set that you also want to be able to use the device camera.

Taking or adding a photo

When a photo can be added within a form you as a user will now be asked if you want to add it from:

  • The built-in Incontrol 'Camera' (see red option in image)
  • The already available photos/images in 'Files'
  • Your own default 'Device camera' (see blue option in image)

When taking/adding a photo in an Incontrol form, you can choose from the Camera and Device Camera.

Camera

After choosing the "Camera" or the "Device Camera," the selected camera will open. Here you can take and add photos as you are used to. There is one difference, however. Namely, with the 'Device Camera' it is not possible to take burst photos (shooting photos one after the other with a single click). You can only take one picture at a time and add it to the photo gallery.

When you have taken the photo(s)/image(s), you will return to the photo gallery. Here you can view, edit and/or delete the taken/added photo(s) (see blue options in the image below). You can also take and add new photos (if the form allows it, as you may have a limit on the number of photos). The previously selected camera will be used again. If you want to switch cameras, you can do so in the upper right corner of the gallery. Adjust the slider/toggle so you can use the desired camera (see red option in the image below).

The photos you take/shoot will show up in the photo gallery, here you can edit the photos, delete or add a new one via the chosen camera.

If you had chosen the option 'Device camera' when taking a picture, then the option will be on (the slider/toggle is on as in the picture). Had you chosen the Incontrol 'Camera' first, then the 'Device Camera' option will be off.
